Chibuluma Mine began production in 1955 as a selfcontained unit producing copper concentrates, which were treated at the mine concentrator. However, the concentrator was closed in 1991. Chibuluma Coppers Mines Plc is currently owned 85% by Jinchuan Group Company Limited and 15% by ZCCMInvestments Holdings.
Mine is accessed via decline, and underground development mainly is completed by trackless equipment, the designed scale is mtpa processed ore. The scope of work comprises of mine construction and production drilling at Chibuluma south block and mine construction at Chifupu block, specifically contains underground development, ground support, steel sets installations.
Chibuluma West was shut in 2005, and lies 12 km north of the Chibuluma South operation which is covered by a separate analysis. The analysis included here shows production postprivatisation. Production prior to October 1 1997 is included in a separate analysis for Nkana.

Using todays compact mining equipment, copper ore is extracted from the mine. After the ore is crushed, South America, coal and steampowered machinery paved the way for a huge increase in copper production with mines smelting between 200 and 300 tons of copper ore per week.
