The main, and only real, problem with milling on the lathe is its inability to cope with large items, due to the small area of the slides and their limited travel. The owner of a typical vertical mill will rarely have to give the capacity of the machine a second though, but, this will invariably be the first consideration before obtaining a kit for a lathe only project.
